The Fourth Reich:  Head of the Snake

Rarely do you see such eloquent prose in a science fiction book.  That is the first thing I quickly took note of.

The premise is that the Nazi movement, led by Hitler, didn’t end in 1945 with Hitler’s and his wife’s deaths in a bunker in Germany.  It in fact grew, with the support of fanatic followers and supporters.

The group finally takes actions against its enemies, by causing a volcanic eruption.  The world thinks it’s a tragedy but behind the scenes, the Intelligence Communities of America, Britain and Russia are discovering the truth!

This story is a complex one, but not so much as to confuse or take away from the pleasure of reading it.  It is a fun read.

I did find the pace a bit off-putting.  There were moments of excitement, but some points where suspense could have been built, it seemed rushed through.  An example of this is a virus which threatens to bring nuclear reactors to a critical stage, seems to have been resolved completely ‘off-stage’.

It also seems that the Nazi scientists have far exceeded other advanced nation’s technical advances, which I found perplexing.

Yet, as I’ve said, this novel is a fun read!  It’s an intriguing, intelligent story, with unexpected twists and some fine writing.

Finally, the author has created an ending that I can only call superb.  It leaves the action at an apex, and gives one no chance but to go and get that sequel!  (The Fourth Reich - Revenge of the Snake, due out soon.)

I rate this novel 8 out of 10.
