Spaced

This novel should be required reading for any advanced writing course.  Publishers should also require their interns to study it, as well!  The writing is superb, the editing superior.  Even the formatting is well done!

Okay, enough of my literary posturing.  On to the story!

I was expecting a good space yarn.  But what I got was an excellent space yarn!  We start out in the middle of action, and from there - it never stops.

Doctor Carmichael Simons is running from the law.  Why?  He only wishes he knew!  All he is sure of, is they’re not trying to arrest him, but kill him!  And in their attempt to do so, there were already two deaths!  Making it back to his ship, he must decide what to do next.

Welcome to the stage, Detective Annalisse Samara.  She’s caught up to the Good Doctor, wanting to arrest him.  Of course, he’s convinced otherwise.  And back-up from the Navy is on the way!

His only method of escaping Aquarius now is a high risk jump from the space port.  Even if the Ship’s AI succeeds in jumping without destroying the ship, the blind jump will leave them lost in space!

So that’s what happens.  The jump is made, and now Dr. Simons – and the AI – have no idea where they are!  They are… spaced.

Now we are privy to the story on two fronts:  The first front is the ship Nightingale, with Dr. Simons (Carm), his AI and Kendra.  Oh, I didn’t mention her before?  She’s Carm’s bangbot – er, Android.  The second front is back on Aquarius, the protagonist Detective Samara, who is quickly discovering the case is not as open and shut as first appearance had indicated.

Rogue mutes, highjacked Warbots, and a Navy coup attempt quickly follow!

When the action finally slows down, there is still a lot of ‘clean-up’ to do.  And even this is done well.

This is a great addition to the genre, and a completely enjoyable read.  Do get your copy, and get ready for a fast and enjoyable ride!

I give this novel a rating of 9.5 out of 10.
